BAKERSFIELD MIST by Stephen Sacks - two performances at VOLKSBÜHNE in Cologne - October 16 & 17, 2024
We have great news! We will be back on stage on Oct. 16 & 17 only, at VOLKSBÜHNE AM RUDOLFPLATZ with our show, Bakersfield Mist by Stephen Sachs! We are very grateful to Volksbühne for their support and to Apiro Entertainment and AmerikaHaus NRW. We had a great run at HORIZONT THEATER in June for our Premier and then performances in Sept., Oct. and November, 2023.
This is a much larger theater so we really need people to come and see these performances. We've spent this year talking with theaters and VB opened up their arms to us and our little show.
For tickets and info: TICKETS or scan the QR code in the picture. We will have a "Meet and Greet" in the bar / foyer afterwards with the audience.
If you haven't seen BAKERSFIELD MIST yet, we would love to see you. If you have, maybe you'd like to see it in this wonderful theater. Please tell your friends, and we hope to see you there. Thanks again to everyone that has supported us in any way since we started 4 years ago during COVID.
With love and appreciation,
Kathleen & James
BAKERSFIELD MIST final performances Nov. 16 & 17, 2023 at Horizont Theater, Cologne
etc-english theater cologne have had an amazing run this year at HORIZONT THEATER in Cologne with our Premier production of BAKERSFIELD MIST by Stephen Sachs. After a fantastic Premier in June, then performances in September and October, we are now down to our final performances on November 16 & 17, although the 17th is sold out!
We had a wonderful review of our Premier show from Theatergemeinde Koeln. Below is an English translation of the original from their Instagram page.

A visit to @etcenglishtheatercologne at @horizonttheater. For transparency purposes: I met the lead, Kathleen Renish in person a year ago when we both attended the same play. We've been in touch ever since, and she invited me to the premiere of "Bakersfield Mist," etc's first production. I was very happy about that. Not only about the invitation, but also about the play. What starts out like a pleasant comedy keeps taking serious, profound turns, and the ending in particular is thought-provoking.
Maude has found a painting in a junk store, a really ugly one, she thinks. After a little research, however, she is now convinced that it is a previously undiscovered painting by Jackson Pollock. Art expert Lionel Percy has come from New York to visit her in the trailer park in California to confirm the authenticity of the painting.
Disagreements and friction arise between the two. It can be felt that Lionel is full of prejudice against Maude. Never in a million years would a real Pollock stray into a trailer park. Maude, on the other hand, is frustrated by this arrogant snoot.
Two worlds meet that could not be more different. Thus, very funny conflicts arise, which at the same time hold up a mirror to how much one is shaped by one's own prejudices.
"Bakersfield Mist" by Stephen Sachs is clever and entertaining. Renish and her antagonist James Bunyon are a well-oiled team. They understand each other almost blindly. It can be seen and felt by both that the performance of this play is a matter of the heart.
He British, she US-American, both speak very understandable English. Especially the contrast of the two accents underlines the different characters of the two protagonists: He very posh, stuck up and condescending, she loud, swearing and stubborn.
It was a pleasure to watch the two of them. RJ
Note: The performance is entirely in English. Further performances will take place in September, October and November.

THEATRE: WHITE RABBIT, RED RABBIT
BACK ON STAGE IN APRIL!
I'm going to be back on stage in Bonn, at the Euro Theater Central, April 13, 2019, 20:00 Uhr, doing WHITE RABBIT, RED RABBIT (in English) by Nassim Soleimanpour.
No rehearsals. No director. No set. A different performer reads the script cold for the first time at each performance.
As a unique theatre experience, WHITE RABBIT, RED RABBIT by Iranian writer Nassim Soleimanpour has been played worldwide, translated in 25 languages and creates a fascinating evening about freedom, manipulation and conformity.
This is not only going to be a unique experience for me but for the audience as well. I'm really looking forward to it!

Once upon a time there was a little girl from a very big, very strange country.
She grew up in a very, very strange family and when she was older, she crossed a big (not quite so strange) ocean and ended up in a very, very, very strange country named...
GERMANY!
But hold on a sec, this isn't a fairy tale! And the truth is by far more crazy...
This is the unbelievable story of Kathleen Renish who left her whacky, orthodox Catholic family in Pennsylvania, only to crash land with a musical company in Germany right when the Berlin Wall came down!
Get the story why Kathleen decided never to leave Germany again - despite her own culture shocks like the German T.V. police, housecleaning craze and third world washing machines.
That is: learn everything and anything about the power of love - and how the Gemericans put it.
Enjoy a funny, warm-hearted evening full of cultural misunderstandings, genuine mishaps, linguistic mishaps -
and after all, with the wonderful singing Ms. Renish.

General Anzeiger Bonn - September 17 performance at the Euro Theater Central Bonn:
"..."Kölsch beherrscht die Wahlkölnerin neben Hochdeutsch übrigens fließend. Das steife britische Queens-Englisch ist nicht so ihr Ding. Dann doch lieber des solide-herzhafte US-Ostküsten-Ton." ...
"Warum sie trotz mangelnder öffentlicher Toiletten und Kaninchenstall-Wohnungen mit teuren Küchen und vorsintflutlichen Waschmaschinen in Deutschland hängen blieb. Klar: Es war die Liebe...."
English translation:
"...Besides "high German", she also speaks the Cologne dialect, Koelsch. Stiff British English is not her thing but instead the solid, hearty U.S. east coast English.
With non-existent public toilets, and rabbit cage sized apartments with expensive kitchens and antediluvian washing machines, she is still "stuck" in Germany. Naturally: It's because of love..."
Comments from the September 17, 2016 show at the Euro Theater Central Bonn:
"...Thank you so much for this amazing and heart-warming show! We had so much fun and you both were great!..."
"...A Lost American In Germany last night at Euro Theater Central in Bonn with and by Kathleen Renish. What a fantastic performer and what a great story, what a life!..."
